WHAT IS THE i-SIZE REGULATION?
i-Size is the EU safety regulation for child car seats (ECE R129). It was introduced in July 2013 to make child car seats easier to fit, provide better protection from side impacts and keep children rearward-facing for longer.
FIVE i-SIZE SAFETY ENHANCEMENTS

Make Classifications Easier
By measuring children according to their height rather than their weight

Promote
Rear-Facing
It is mandatory to keep I-Size seats rear-facing until the child is a minimum of
15 months old

Make Seats
Safer
A side impact test to ensure that the seats provide better protection from side impact collisions

Easier
Installation
Reducing the risk of misuse and improper installation due to seats being secured by ISOFIX

Smarter
Dummies
New generation dummies which more closely represent actual behaviour of real
children

Makes rear-facing mandatory for
at least 15 months
When a baby is rearward-facing,
a baby’s head and neck will be fully supported
in a potential impact, for a much longer
period of time.
Classified by a child’s height
Makes it simpler for parents to get
the selection right car seat for each child
Frontal, rear & side impact testing
Improved protection for side and
front impacts, with a focus on the prevention
of head and neck injuries.
New Advanced Q Dummies
used in crash tests
The new version has more sensors,
higher sensitivity and better reflects how
a child’s body would react in an accident.
